London: Printed for Jacob Tonson, at Shakespeare Head over-against Katherine Street in the Strand. 1713. Apparently a first edition as Copac shows only this edition in its listing. Obviously in the original binding which is full l Hinges are open but held by the cords (front board only held by one cord). There is overall rubbing and wear, but the book makes a lovely antique appearance. Large florid signature of former owner, John Lawrence on front and rear end papers with the date of 1723. Their penmanship with quill pens or the equivalent was spectacular. 550 pages plus two pages of The Table. 8 x 5 1/4.

No. 62 , St. Paul's Church-yard. 1817. Hardbound in matching brown calf with gilt-stampe Former owner's inscription on front paste down dated 1843 of each volume. and a gift inscription on the front blank end paper, also date 1843 Volume I also has a handwritten comment by a Dr. Johnson on the front paste down. Alas, this is not the famous Dr. Johnson who was long gone at this time.The corners are bumped and there is rubbing on the spines. Light rubbing and shelf wear and rubbing to the boards. The bindings are tight and the contents are clean and very good with minimal age ripple to the pages. Rare Books. Vol. I, 501 pages; Vol. ii, 428 pages. 8 1/4 x 5
